Music, Reading, Exercise and Homework...

Monday, April 21st, Yeah me!! I had another purposeful day! This included doing the laundry, changing the linens in our bedroom to cotton instead of flannel (springtime is here!), creating a good draft of the May Relief Society Newsletter and updating my pictures and Blog.

I still marvel at technology. In the evening, I was able to do lots of Relief Society answering of questions and steering people to others via texts and messaging. Maybe I marvel because I remember when that wasn't the case. Old age gives you a good perspective on all the blessings that come over the last few years. To sit in my chair and handle all these things using my cellphone is a marvel to me.

Tuesday, April 22nd, Claude started his day with a visit to a special dentist. He had a crown replaced. Then the tooth next to it started really hurting. He went back to Dr. Hollen, our dentist, and she referred him to this special dentist in Lexington. On Tuesday, he went to that appointment and, after lots of X-rays, was told he has a crack in the root of that tooth. There is no way for a dentist to fix that. It leaves the root open for bacteria and the only recourse is to remove the tooth. Claude will now have to have a tooth extraction, let that heal, them get an implant for that tooth. Yike! The good thing is we now may have enough for a medical deduction on our 2025 income tax filing next year. Glass half full perspective.

I started back on the treadmill. I was doing well with this until we went to Michigan and I didn't have my treadmill for a week. I decided to look at this from a different perspective. I had been walking for 15 minutes at 3mph. That would yield 3/4 mile of walking. I want to be ready for Greece and really believe we won't have any 'forced marches' on that trip. We will have some walks for good lengths of time to see the excursions we have lined up. What I need is endurance ability. So, I will now walk for 24 minutes at 2 1/2 mph. This will yield one mile of walking and hopefully build my endurance. And...I'm off and walking!!

While Claude was at the dentist, I took a recent edition of the Church News about the April General Conference. It has synopsis of the General Conference talks. I sat at our dining room table and marked off the talks we will be using for Relief Society lesson from May through October. The remaining talks I read the synopsis on and highlighted quotes. When I create the monthly Relief Society Newsletter, I always put a General Conference quote in it. I was able to take the quotes I selected and drop them in the next six months of Relief Society Newsletter formats I have created. That felt good.

I sat and crocheted three more squares for Bailey's afghan.

In the evening, we traveled to LaGrange to attend Bailey's final Prism Concert at Oldham County High School. This concert is just fun. The different sections of the band perform numbers the students have picked and worked on in their own time. Since some students play multiple instruments, there is moving around to get to where the perform next. I always enjoy this because it truly highlights the fact these kids LOVE music. They are doing this playing things they choose and work on. It makes for a delightful evening.
Wednesday, April 23rd, I could not sleep Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Again, I fell asleep when we went to bed, slept for my hour and then my body thought it had a great nap and was ready to go again. Ugh. I made good use of my time. I researched and found that Dan Brown's next novel comes out in September. I know I have paperbacks of some of these books. I wanted to have them on my Kindle. They will make great reading for the LONG flight to and from Greece. I ordered the 5 current books in the Robert Langdon series and pre-ordered the newest book. It will come out in September. I look forward to reading all these books.

In the meantime, I decided to start reading The Illiad by Homer in preparation for Greece. This is going to be a slow read on a very LONG book. I am not great at Greek mythology, or Roman for that matter. I have read a brief book about Greek mythology in preparation for our Greece trip. I found my self wading through the first chapter of The Illiad on my Kindle. I would come to a name and press my finger on that word. That brings up a dictionary definition as well as a bar to highlight or make notes about the word. This really helped me to understand who the story is about and where they fit in Greek mythology. But, alas, my memory has never been good at remembering these kinds of things. Let's just stay I have lots of names and places highlighted and a few notes to help me remember the 'son of ___' is really '___'. I learned that Jove is Jupiter and I now try to substitute Jupiter when I am reading Jove. Doing all of this will be great exercise for my brain and I will be a bit more familiar as we do our excursions. It is work but it is good work.

My big goal was to clean our bathroom. Clean the tub/shower is one of my least favorite household chores. Our tub in this house is a big oversized. To reach across as I get older has always been a concern. With my arm, I am even more concerned. I used to spray down the entire tub/shower and then stand in a slippery tub to wipe all that down, then climb on the side of the tub to get the shower head down to rinse all of this. Why did it take me all these years to finally see that I could stand in a dry tub, spray a specific area and clean it starting at the top and working my way down. This is a much safer way for me to do this cleaning. I now struggle even more with getting the shower head down to rinse all of it off the tub/shower. The first thing we do when moving to a home is to be sure all the showers in our tubs have a shower head on a coil so it can be used to rinse the tub. Now, I am not so steady on my feet. Climbing up to get that shower head is a bit more concerning. I get the step ladder and use it but I still get a mite concerned. It felt good to get this chore accomplished.

I wanted to call Chime Clocks to check on any progress with my clock we left on February 11th. I called and the nice fella answered the phone. I explained I left my clock on February 11th and was wondering if they have an estimate yet on cost to repair. That poor man in his very southern accent said, "I haven't got to February yet!" I thanked him and went to tell Claude about this interchange. We both had a good belly-laugh over this comment. When we left the clock, he showed us three walls full of clocks to repair. He assured us it would be at least two month and maybe longer. I wasn't surprised to hear his answer. It just rang funny that he hasn't even gotten to February yet.

I was hungry for spaghetti. Not sure why. I mentioned it to Claude. That good hubby that he is, he made spaghetti for dinner. Yum!!

Thursday, April 24th, one highlight of this day was actually purchasing tickets to Amy Grant & Vince Gill at the Ryman Auditorium in December. This is there Christmas show. We attended once and totally enjoyed ourselves. These tickets are much sought after and I thought I could get any. I looked again and had Claude come see what I found. We found seats we thought would be okay and purchased them. Christmas date number 2 is on the calendar!

In the evening we held our April Relief Society activity. This time we played the Jeopardy game with questions about April General Conference. Each of our presidency was assigned one of the topics to come up with questions and answers for. My topic was Music. We also had Temples, Trivia, Guess Who, and Testimony. Jenessa Dymock, Relief Society president's, husband, Zak, found an app we could use for the Jeopardy board. We each submitted our questions and answers to Jenessa and she filled out the app. Jenessa also loves making cinnamon rolls. These are a General Conference tradition for many families. So, our dessert was cinnamon rolls made by our resident Cinnamon Roll Lady, Jenessa. We started with refreshments and then enjoyed a very loose version of Jeopardy. No teams, we just all played and took turns. It was great fun. I believe it should be a tradition!

I want to remember the kindness Claude did that was not used. We originally planned to move the chairs and sofas from the lobby to the Relief Society room. We decided at the last minute not to do that. Claude, not know we were now not moving that furniture, went to the garage and rummaged around to find the moving coasters for us to use. The go under the feet of furniture to help it slide on the surface with greater ease. I was really touched at his thoughtfulness and felt bad telling him we were not moving the furniture now. Good hubby!

There were leftover cinnamon rolls so we all took one home to our hubby. Yes!!
Friday, April 25th, Claude and I decided we needed a day to just be. I suggested the night before that we start our morning with a real breakfast: bacon, eggs and toast. I awoke feeling a little puny. I got up early and spent time in my chair reading the Iliad. Claude got up later and he did make a good breakfast to start our day.

We then spent the day in our respective chairs. It was a rainy day and a little cooler than we have been experiencing. From my recliner, I can easily see out the door to the patio. I could hear the rain showers every time they came and enjoyed watching it. I promise you that through the day our grass grew another inch or two. Really. I am sure it did.

I suggested to Claude that we take one of our pork tenderloins and cook it with BBQ sauce, then add rice of some type and the chopped up chunky vegetables he had on hand. On my! It was such a delicious meal and perfect for this rainy, lazy day.

Saturday, April 26th, we got back to adulting. I was awake before Claude and read chapter four in the Iliad. I am finally getting to the story. I still have to pause and research a person or two but I am getting a better hang of the story. I also practiced my Greek on Duolingo. I won't be speaking Greek when we go to Greece, but I may be able to pick out and recognize some words. I am enjoying the learning how ever far it gets.

I was able to crochet a good bit. By the end of the day, I made 9 more squares. It takes 9 squares to finish a row. I now need to stitch them together and then add this row to my first one for a grand total of 2 rows in the afghan. This will take a lot of work but I am sure the more I add the more excited I will be to see the next row added.

Sunday, April 27th, we had a great Sabbath Day!

A person entered the chapel that I did not know. I went back to him to say hello. His name was John Friley. I asked if he was visiting the Friley family in our ward. He was not. He just decided to visit the church. I asked if he had met the Elders. He had not. As the hand of the Lord is in our lives, the missionaries walked by at that time. I waved them over and asked if they had met John Friley. I explained he had just come to visit. They quickly struck up a conversation and then sat with him through the meetings.

We had a great Relief Society lesson based on Elder Patrick Kearon's October General Conference talk entitled "Welcomes to the Church of Joy". It was delightful with many sisters sharing. A very cup-filling lesson.

Claude and I quickly went to Jimmy John's for our meal of the day. As we went through the drive-thru, the manager saw us at the window and came for a chat. He is a biker and he loved Claude's Jeep. He chatted for quite a while. How pleasant is that?!

Claude was able to get a quick nap while I finished up the May Relief Society Newsletter. We have a May activity of attending the temple. I had an impression to include the Dedicatory Prayer for the Louisville Kentucky Temple.

In the evening, we drove to Louisville to the Iroquois Amphitheater. This was Bailey's final performance with the Louisville Youth Orchestra. Joyce Romanoff, Michael's stepmother flew in for this one. Bailey would perform with two ensembles. The Concert Winds and Symphonic Wind Ensemble would play "The Great Race". The Repertory Orchestra would play three numbers, "Rolling in the Deep", "Shallow (from A Star is Born)", and "Havanna". There were a lot of birds in the trees outside the amphitheater really enjoying the music and singing right along. Andie and I got a kick out of an older lady, her husband and their son. They entered the amphitheater about half way through the program. The son looked about Claude and my age. They first entered the row in front of us and sat in the middle. Then they moved to the row in front of that in the middle. Next they moved to the second row from the front in the middle. I thought I missed them exit but they really had moved to the side section. The other thing that caught our attention was a young girl on the far left of the theater seating. A somber piece of music was playing and this little one was head banging to the music. Andie, who teaches first grade, was very amused by this energy. It was a good performance and Bailey was very happy to now have her Sunday afternoons back!

We were back home about 7:15pm. Claude had a Zoom meeting from 8pm-9pm. I eliminated some saved documentaries. When he finished we watched Music & the Spoken Word. Then we watched an Unearthed documentary about the Acropolis. We paused it several times as we are trying diligently to learn where the path is that we will need to hike to get to the top. I researched some about the Acropolis and sent those files to Claude. It felt good to get a little more familiar with this part of our trip to Greece.

A Purposeful Life...Sometimes...

I keep a Gratitude Journal. Every evening, I write a few things I am thankful for that day. When I get ready to create my Blog entry for the week, I usually grab my Gratitude Journal. Using it with my calendar and any pictures I have taken, help me remember what happened during any week. As I look at my entries in my Gratitude Journal since my last Blog was completed on Monday April 14th, I realize I focused on a 'purposeful day'. In fact, my last entry for my last Blog post begins, "Monday April 14th, was what I call a 'purposeful day'." Well, I have learned looking back at my Gratitude Journal that I can sustain a 'purposeful day' for about three days. Then...I fall apart!! Here we go...

Tuesday, April 15th, was another 'purposeful day'. That would make two in a row. At time with my laptop I was able to complete my weekly Blog post, send out Relief Society announcements, and do research for an upcoming trip to Memphis.

I even managed to have a date with Claude to Lexington. We went to Hobby Lobby for me to look for yarn. Our Bailey has made her decision and will be attend Campbellsville University. The school colors are maroon and gray. I am going to make Bailey an afghan out of maroon and gray yarn. The best place to search for a lot of yarn at once is Hobby Lobby. As good fortune would have it, they have built a new Chipotle in the parking lot where Hobby Lobby is located. We wanted to have dinner and would not try this Chipotle.

This is the pattern I will use as a guide, coloring will be mostly maroon with gray and white accents. This is the yard chosen to make the afghan.
When we came out of Hobby Lobby, it was quite windy. The propeller on Claude's Jeep was really in motion.
In the evening, we settled in for watching some more Castles. I ate some jumbo blueberries Claude purchased for me as I seem to be on a blueberry kick. These were absolutely, bar-none, the very best blueberries I have ever eaten. Yum!!

Wednesday, April 16th, was an 'almost note purposeful day'. I awoke not feeling well at all. After my bowl of cereal, posting our family trivial pursuit questions and setting up my puzzles for my Kindle for the day, I set to work regrouping for a more 'purposeful day'. I was able to finish our travel plans for Memphis. And, I was able to get the May Relief Society birthday cards all written and labeled and ready to wait to be mailed. Whew!!

Thursday, April 17th, was a 'not so purposeful day'. There you have it. I completed three purposeful days and not so much on the fourth one. But it is okay.

Claude and I took my Buick in for the oil change it needed. Tire Discounters would do this for us. I tried to book through Dan Cummins but they couldn't fit me in for two weeks. I find this sooooo frustrating. When Frank Shoop owned that dealership, I could call and Kim would get me right in or in within that week. Dan Cummins is good in some ways but this is one area they are weak in. When I called Dan Cummins and asked for an oil change, I was told they couldn't fit me in for at least two weeks. I assured them I needed the oil change the next week. Couldn't do it. Wouldn't do it. Whatever. I said, "Well, too bad," and hung up. Claude suggested I call Tire Discounters. We purchased new tires for each of cars from them. They actually gave Claude a free oil change which we have used. I called and they would have gotten me in that day. I asked if I could come the next day and they said anytime was okay. Oh my heavens. That felt right. It was fun to hear their banter with customers. Clearly they know Dan Cummins charges way more than they should for the service they provide, they are a dealership. Customers that came in had negative comments about the service at Dan Cummins. I can't complain about Dan Cummins service. They do good work. It is just not often customer friendly. I shall now go all the time to Tire Discounters for my oil changes.

I delivered the baby afghan I crocheted to Tina at Scott County Physical Therapy. Such nice people. Tina was there and I was able to give it directly to her.

Friday, April 18th, we had two birthdays in our family. Jake, our son and youngest child, would turn 50 years old. What!!! And Kennedi, our next to youngest great grandmonster, would turn two years old. This is my post on our family Facebook page.
"Today our family has 2 birthdays to celebrate.
1st, we say Happy Birthday to Jake Christensen. Even though he is our youngest child, today is one of those banner birthdays! He is an excellent care giver to Soot. Jake sings the best Happy Mother's Day. We are super happy he is hiking and enjoying it so much. Happy Banner Birthday, Jake!!
2 years ago Kennedi Claudette Roper joined our family. She a Mighty Mite. She recently broke that 20 pound barrier. We were so happy we got to make friends with her this month in person. Happy Birthday, Kennedi.
          We love our family bunches!!
Friday afternoon, Claude received a call from Lynette, his younger sister. They were in Nashville and wanted to stop in for a visit. Well, of course, that is okay!! They arrived about 6pm. We took them to McCallister's for dinner. Then we came back and toured our little home. We ended our evening sitting on the patio visiting. After all, we had an 80 degree day. It was so nice of them to go hundreds of miles out of their way for a quick visit. They headed down the road as they wanted to visit Memphis next.
Saturday, April 19th, I finally finished my weeding of all the flower beds. Claude would cut the grass for the second time this year. This took three rounds of weeding. When the yard service spreads seed in the fall, it goes into the flowers beds as well as the yard. This grass was set in and it took a lot of arm muscle to get it all out of the beds. Fortunately, my right arm is a bit stronger and I was able to do it. It also requires me sitting on the ground and trying to move my body around. Not an easy task at all. But it is done and it looks a lot better. I do enjoy working in the yard when Claude is also working in the yard.

Sunday, April 20th, was Easter Sunday. I remember when that mean a new dress. Not anymore. Somewhere along the line I quit doing that for myself. I remember distinctly have a navy blue blazer with a pink silk flower on the lapel. I came with a navy blue pleated skirt with pink polka dots. That was my Easter outfit for a very long time. Now I have a peach colored top that I wear with my black skirt. It is my official Easter outfit and will be until I wear it out.

Claude was the one who wrote the Easter programs for church. It was very well done. A very nice way to begin our Easter Sunday.

I posted this on Facebook for Easter.
"Our 2005 visit to Israel has many vivid memories. One of the most poignant was the final day. We walked down the Mount of Olives stopping in Gethsemane among the ancient olive trees. Then we were taken to a possible site of the crucifixion and the Garden Tomb. After peering inside the tomb, we were left some quiet time near this tomb. There was a slight hill with a bench looking down on the tomb. I sat on that bench and felt such strong emotions that tears rolled from my eyes. It was a very tender moment in my life.
"I love my Savior. I believe in him and the power of his Atonement and Resurrection. I believe this affects my life all day, every day. I am grateful for His love. I am grateful for this amazing experience and this picture to reflect on the fact that my Savior lives and loves me and each of you.
"Happy Easter to each of you!!"
I decided it would be an offical holiday. I spent my afternoon watching my documentaries while Claude took his nap. In the evening we watched Music and the Spoken Word followed by Castle. I would crochet a few more square for the afghan. It was a very quiet, nice afternoon and evening.

This is the Roper kids dressed for Easter Sunday. Four of our great grandmonsters. So cute!!
Raelyn, Kennedi, Emelia and Joel.

Floods, Music, Good News, and Weeds...

I want to start this Blog with a mention of the horrid flooding that occurred while Claude and I were visiting family up north. We left on a Tuesday. The rains started in Kentucky on Wednesday, April 2nd, and went through Sunday, April 6th. There were brief period when it did not rain, but there was a LOT of rain. Record flooding occurred. Bill Meckes is the chief meteorologist for Channel 18 in Lexington. He posted these charts on Facebook which give a perspective of the amount of rain that fell in comparison to other years.
I will share on picture from Facebook. It is Buffalo Trace Distillery. This is my favorite distillery in Kentucky. It sits right on the banks of the Kentucky River. The river flooded and covered the distillery area. All that water around the rickhouses should not be there. The rickhouses store the barrels of bourbon for years. If you look to the right it looks like a huge pond or lake. That is the parking lot. There is a little building in the top center of that pond. That is the old revenue house. It now serves as the place to get your ticket for a visit to the gift shop or to take a tour. If you continue to the left that building at the end of the road leading into the distillery is an very old rickhouse. It was included on the tour. Across the street from it is a long building that is the visitors center and gift shop. If you follow the road between the old rickhouse building and the visitor's center to the end, you will see a very small building. That little building holds the oldest barrel of bourbon. It has aged longer than any other. The flooding was horrid for so many family along the Kentucky and the Ohio River and all the little creeks and streams in all the hollers in Kentucky. My heart aches for all those who now must clean up and try to begin again or relocate.
Thursday, April 10th, I finally got a haircut. Thank you Jenna Thacker.

In the evening, Claude and I went to the Lexington Opera House to see the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band "All the Good Times Farewell Tour". What a fun evening for us. Other than the seats I got this time were not great for Claude. He likes to sit on the end of a row. We both like to sit in the Mezzanine level so we can see over the entire stage. The end of the row seats I got this time were next to the box seats and the base of them stood out so that Claude could not see the keyboard player. Ugh. We still really enjoyed the music.
This always throws me for a loop. The is a son and father. They are so different in build that it seems wrong. But they are a son on the left and his father on the right.
The drummer reminds me of watching Papa play his guitar with his harmonica around his neck. He could do both at once or stop and play one or the other. This drummer was playing the harmonica and his drums at the same time a lot of the concert. That, my friends, takes some coordination!
The fiddle player was great. At one point, he played the Orange Blossom Special. So cool.
These are three of the original band members. Excellent.
This is the band with their guest artist, Tommy Prine, singing the final numbers.
The final stage bow after their encore. The encore was two songs sung right after each other as though they were one song. I loved singing along with them and my video has my voice clearing singing along. Video is too long for this Blog post.
This is a snippet of one of the songs. They still have a great sound.
Friday, April 11th, I paused for a day to crochet. I was working on a baby afghan. In the evening we watched the three Saturday sessions of General Conference. Then Bailey called to tell us she had selected her college. She will attend Campbellsville University in Campbellsville, Kentucky. She will start in August as she will attend Band Camp. She is so excited. Very happy for our girl.

Saturday, April 12th, we started our day with yardwork. With all this rain, our grass has taken off and gotten pretty tall. Claude cut it the first time before our trip north. It was definitely time to cut again. Especially the back yard. My area of focus was weeding. I could only do minimal weeding last year. Over the winter, the grass seems to grow into the flower beds. I had a lot of grass to pull out of my planted areas. I would spend the day weeding the grass areas with the stone steps going through them and the flower beds on either side.

Because we did yardwork, we earned a burger for dinner. Burger King to the rescue. While doing the drive thru, I ordered tickets to see Alton Brown in Memphis, Tennessee. Looks like we will have to hit the road again.

I shared with Claude that I was impressed that we should as Mike Dudley if he wanted the gas grill. Mike is friend from church. Claude and I have talked about getting rid of the gas grill. We never use it as it is just the two of us and the big Foreman grill in the kitchen works well for just the two of us. Claude liked the idea. I posted these pictures in a message to Mike asking if he wanted the grill and its utensils as well as the wooden bench. Mike was happy to take both. He had a brother-in-law who wanted the grill and Mike wanted the bench. Yippee!! The would come Sunday afternoon and take them away.
In the evening we watched the Sunday sessions of General Conference. While watching, Claude received a phone call from Katelyn. She needed some help with a recipe. I always find this amusing and lovely. They don't call their Gramma or mother with a recipe, they call Claude, our resident chef!!

I finished the baby afghan. I think I will give it to Tina who stretched my arm after exercises at office PT. She is expecting her fourth baby in May.
Bailey went to the Prom at another school in Oldham County. She has friends all over the place and they all went together. She had a great time.
Sunday, April 13th, we had a great Relief Society lesson taught by Sophia Watson. She has such a soft voice and such a sincere spirit.

Mike Dudley and his brother-in-law came and picked up the grill and the bench in the afternoon.

In the evening, we had a Relief Society presidency meeting. We now do this via Google Meets and it is an excellent way to participate in this meeting. We covered so much in 45 minutes. Lessons are plotted for the next six months, the activities for April and May were covered, ministering and callings were discussed, it was really well run and done meeting.

Monday April 14th, was what I call a 'purposeful day'. I awoke before Claude. I was able to use that time to collection questions for our General Conference Jeopardy game activity in April for Relief Society. My area was music.

Then I felt a strong impression to go out and pull weeds in the back yard. I did not finish this on Saturday. I would weed around the two little bushes by where the bench used to stand, then all along the fence where the liriope are and finally the hosta bed. I believe when our Pratt comes to spray our lawn and sometimes spread grass seed, some of it gets into the flower beds. Ugh. Great grass but I really have to work to get it out of the flower beds. The good news is my right should is really getting a lot of workout time.

In the evening, I asked Claude if we could have a Castle watching evening. He agreed and made us a nice stir-fry for dinner.

While watching, we got a call from Katelyn. She asked Claude if I could hear. I assured her I could hear as Claude's phone was on speaker. Drew was on the phone and asked if we would be able to come to his baptism on June 28th. We assured him we would be there even if things has to be rearranged on our calendars. What a great blessing!! We are so happy for Drew and Katelyn. This is a huge decision for Drew. He has not taken it lightly. We will support them to the very best of our ability.

Day 4, Family Time in Holton, Great Grands in Muskegon, Jake in Chelsea...

Saturday, April 5th, was the day for a family picnic. Nissa and Todd agreed to have it at their home. All of Nissa and Todd's kids were invited and their families. Everyone would come except for Paul (had to work), Phoebe (Paul's daughter whom we are not allowed to see) and Mitchell and family (Todd's son who won't speak to him).

Nissa and I started the day with a trip to Meijer's for food. It was nice to just be Nissa and me for a bit.

The kids would join us at 1pm. Todd would cook burgers and hot dogs on his pellet grill. We ate first.

Everyone left about 5pm. It was great having all the family together. Then we cleaned up quickly and spent the rest of the evening resting.

Sunday, April 6th, was set aside as a day for Nissa, Todd, Claude and me to have together. Nissa was getting head cold. It was cold and windy outside. The day was spent inside. Todd made a great breakfast using Hawaiian Sweet Rolls cut in half and used to make French toast. Yum! I even got some crocheting done. Nice quiet day.

Monday, April 7th, was to have been a grandmonster play day with Claude and me for their spring break from school. Alas, I did not realize Nelson had his spring break the week before. So, we had a play day with the Roper children.

My plan was to take them to the Muskegon Museum where they have a mastodon. Muskegon has taken that them and place small mastodon statues around downtown. I had hoped we could walk and let the kids find them and take pictures of them with their mastodon. The weather did not cooperate. Plan B went into effect. We took the kids to the mall where they have a big carpeted play area. The kids were very happy to be able to run and climb and slide on things.
After about an hour and a half, the youngest were ready to do something else. Time for McDonald's. We all had a nice lunch together. Drew had to be to work at 3pm. We had some time after lunch so Claude tried to order a little ice cream cone for the four kids. Alas, McDonald's decided this was a good time to clean their ice cream maker. Not sure what it is with McDonald's but we have really bad luck getting a shake or ice cream with them. The machines are always broken or getting cleaned. Literally, Raelyn even warned us their machine might not be working before Claude placed the order.
We had a good day with the little ones. Drew headed to work, they headed home and Claude and I headed back to Holton.

We made a stop at Whispering Pines. This is the Amish bulk food store. The purpose was to find cookies for me, cheese and sour dough bread for Claude. We picked up a few things to take to our son, Jake, as well. The thing that I always am amused by is the parking for horses. It is an Amish community and they do not drive cars. Nissa tells me they have this same parking at the Meijer in Fremont.
Monday was also Todd's birthday. Claude and I picked up Nissa in Holton and we drove back to Muskegon to Hobo's for a birthday dinner for Todd. I posted this on our family Facebook page for his birthday: "Guess what? We get to wish Todd Tyler a very Happy Birthday today!! Yep, he made another trip around the sun. We are going to Hobo's tonight to celebrate! Happy Birthday, Todd! We Love ya bunches!!"
Tuesday, April 8th, was our last day in the Muskegon area. We first picked up Paul and took him to Bob Evans. We had a nice meal and a very frank discussion. It was good to see Paul and be with him again.

Then we went to the Roper home for one more quick goodbye visit with the great grandmonsters.

Joel dressed as a Ninja Turtle. Please note the hot pad mittens he uses as pinchers.
I asked Emelia if she put blue eye shadow on. She assured me she had no makeup on. I asked her to close her eyes so I could take a picture. Katelyn told me she found her makeup case off the shelf and on her bed. Pretty sure our little one did put on some blue eye shadow.
Waving goodbye to Great Pa and Great Ma.
We left the Roper's and went back to Port City Automotive for one final hug from Nissa and Todd. Then we hit the road for Chelsea, Michigan to visit Jake, our son.

Jake actually had the day off. He was doing all his errands before we came. We got to Chelsea about 5pm. We went to Jake apartment and dropped off some things for him. Then we all went to Valiant's for a nice dinner together. After we went to our hotel room to visit until about 8:30pm. Claude took Jake back to his apartment for the night.

Wednesday, April 9th, we left the hotel at 11am. We picked Jake up and went to the Mexican restaurant in Chelsea for lunch. We really like this place. After a great lunch and visit, we took Jake back home for a quick nap before he was to head for work. We gassed the car and headed toward Georgetown, Kentucky.

We would only stop once for gasoline and a snack break. It started to rain on us in Ohio. We were forever getting across the bridge from Cincinnati into Kentucky. But it was rush hour and to be expected. It started to rain again on us while we waited. It quit once we were into Kentucky.
We would stop at Jimmy John's for a sandwich for our dinner. We agreed to take it home. Unload the car but do nothing with the things we unloaded. Usually I am all about emptying the suitcase and starting the laundry. Not this night. We emptied the car, curled up in our recliners, ate our sandwiches and watch a couple of Castle's before heading to bed.

This was a really good trip. We saw all of our family the lives up north with the exception of Phoebe. Maybe some day her mother will open her heart and let us visit with Phoebe. We enjoyed a good meal in St. Louis, visited a new place the "Field of Dreams, and spent time with family in Chicago, Muskegon, Holton and Chelsea. Good trip!!
