We honestly have no idea how long we have had our mattress. But, it was time, time I tell you, to replace it. What an adventure we were on.
Things change quickly in today's world. When you stay out of the loop on new things, it can be a little startling to see that it is a whole new world in that area of life. Such was the adventure looking for a new mattress.
Our old mattress needed to be turned and rotated to get the most life. That is NOT how mattresses are made today. We checked several places and learned that we really now had three choices. The pillow top (coils on the bottom of the mattress with a pillowy layer of batting on top), Hybrid (coils on the bottom with a thick layer of foam on top of that) or Foam (all foam). Each kind has different grades within it. Each grade has a different life span. Each grade comes in various levels of firmness from soft to extra firm. Our heads were whirling trying to get it all straight.
Then we met the most wonderful man at the mattress store in Georgetown. He knew his stuff. He was not pushy in trying to sell us something. He really wanted us to have what we liked and the best bang for our buck. That is amazing in a salesman who works on commission.
He first asked us what we knew and might be looking for. Then he showed us the lay of the store. We were the only customers in the store. We were allowed to try all the mattresses we wanted and he promised he would only charge us IF we started to snore and then it would be a 'by the minute' charge.
Once he was sure of what we were looking for in firmness, he picked out one from each of the three types for us to begin to make our final purchase. We each took our own pillow and tried the three. That narrowed it down to firmness and type. But we learned doing this that some have cooling features. This appeals to a lady still having MAJOR hot flashes. I just know they will stop someday. I just know they will. But I digress... And, we learned they had remote controls and could move to great comfortable positions for reading. Woah Nellie!!
Once we found the features we liked and found the cost Claude just looked at him and said, "I just can't pay that much for a mattress. Just can't do it." Love my Guy!!
Our trusty salesman said, "Let me show you this one then." It was made by Sealy which is owned by Temperpedic. It was just like the more expensive one, nearly the same life span, and it had the cooling and remote control. Great savings and good features.
Monday, the delivery came early in the morning. Here is the box springs being tested with the remote.
And here is the new Temperpedic-like mattress. We haven't made total peace with it yet. But it does sleep very well. Which leaves one to wonder 'what in the world will they have for mattresses 20 years from now!!
