Monday, February 3rd, was spent Blogging and getting a start on the March Relief Society newsletter. Such an average kind of day.
Tuesday, February 4th, my day was spent accomplishing household things (laundry, etc.) and getting Valentine's for the great grandmonsters wrapped for shipping and creating Bailey's birthday gift.
In the evening, we went to the Louisville Temple. It was a truly spirit filled session for me. I am so grateful that Steve Gulbrandsen, my sister Junie's husband, has done so much research for family names. I can go to the Family History website for the Church and print a name from my family to take to the temple. I love doing this work for these deceased relatives.
Wednesday, February 5th, I was grateful for having a blood pressure cuff in our home. I did not feel right in the morning. I took my blood pressure and it was very high. It stayed that way all day long.
I did go to my only office PT session this week. I am now only going once a week. Took my time and made it through fine. Then came home to ice up and spent the afternoon in my recliner.
In the evening, there was a Google Meets Relief Society Presidency meeting. I did sit in on that. I was still no on my game. But I felt a little bit better.
Claude was a real hero and made us homemade beef soup for a rainy cold day. Yum!!
Thursday, February 6th, Claude would go to Frankfort this day with the Communications Council. He took two teens from our stake with him. This meant it took my car. I was homebound for the day. Not a bad deal. I was able to putter through my home PT and other things I wanted to get done.
Claude was back home about 1pm and headed to the dentist. He had a tooth that they replaced the crown on a few weeks back. It was giving him pain. They fit him in at 2pm. Turns out he has an abscess. Dr. Hollen ground down parts of the crown so it fit a bit better. She prescribed and antibiotic for him and referred him to Dr. Kelly in Lexington to see if there is something with that root that needs addressing.
I was able to crochet around a girls burp pad in the evening.
Friday, February 7th, was our turn to clean the church. The rest of our crew was to clean Saturday morning but we were to be in LaGrange with Bailey. So we went Friday morning and cleaned the chapel and all the entry doors glass.
This is where the wheels started to go off our well planned bus. Here was the original plan:
- Friday evening Andie and Michael would head to Indianapolis to see Billy Joel and Sting. (Remember this was supposed to happen in September but was gully-washed out when the hurricane came through.)
- Saturday morning head to LaGrange. Take Bailey and a friend to lunch for Bailey's birthday. We would spend the night at the Marx home.
- Sunday we would take Bailey to LYO and some other evening right after that. Andie and Michael would return in the afternoon or evening. Then we would head back to Georgetown.
- Wednesday morning we would leave for our Key West Trip.
Then we tried to deal with Claude's abscessed tooth and his antibiotic. He learned the the prescription for the antibiotic had been sent to CVS to be mailed to him. Hmm, we were going out-of-town and this was NOT going to work. When he checked his CVS app, it didn't have any prescription being filled for him in any way. We called the dentist office, which is closed on Friday, and left a voice message explaining the need for the antibiotic sooner than mailing. There was nothing else we could do.
Also, the weather report was now stating we were in for a winter storm Monday night into Tuesday. It appeared we would get six inches of snow with ice on top of that, then some rain. Ugh. We did not want to be trapped in our home and not be ablet to make our trip. We started watching the weather in earnest to see what changes were happening. We also plotted to leave Sunday or Monday to get away from the storm. Goodness. Our carefully planned weekend and next week were falling apart. It's strange to have no control over the things happening. We could only control how we dealt with it.
In the evening, I actually cooked for Claude. I made meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy and spinach. Claude was so happy with the meal. He was also happy not to be the cook for one evening.
As we sat watching a little television and me crocheting a boy burp pad, Claude received a telephone call. It seems someone from Dr. Hollen's office came in to the office and got Claude's voice message. A new prescription had been called in to CVS. He was to call CVS and confirm they had it. Claude called CVS, they had the prescription and would have it ready for him in 45 minutes. We continue our television program and then drove to the very long line at the drive-thru at CVS to pick up said prescription.
When we finally got to the drive-thru window, they had not filled the prescription and said it would be another 15 minutes. We drove around to the front of CVS and parked and waited for 15 minutes before Claude went inside to pick up the antibiotic. Yeah!! We thought....
We got home and Claude read all the instructions and pertinent information about this antibiotic. He had been prescribed Clindamycin. Ugh. This was prescribed to me and two weeks after finishing it, I got C-Diff. This is an awful thing to get. Not everyone gets it but enough do that it is listed on the drugs possible side-effects in the paperwork that comes with the prescription. We will pray Claude is one of the people that it doesn't affect. I will NEVER take that antibiotic again. EVER!!
Saturday, February 8th, Andie and Michael were both down. Michael tested positive for flu. Andie did not. Michael was really not exhibiting symptoms. Andie was. Since Andie teaches first grade, she was also prescribed Tamiflu. They were not going to Indianapolis. It was supposed to be very rainy again. These kids can't catch a break in seeing Billy Joel. He is actually coming to Cincinnati but Rod Stewart is his opening act and he is not a draw for Andie and Michael. They would spend their weekend at home resting and trying to get well.
I quickly did two loads of laundry in the morning so we could pack if needed. Goodness.
Okay, the other irony about this is that a number of school systems have had to cancel classes. Lots of sick kids but, also, LOTS of sick teachers with not enough substitutes to cover and LOTS of sick bus drivers with not enough to get the kids to school and home again. Andie's school system was in that category during the week. They had school Monday of this week. Then school was canceled Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and to be NTI days. Then Friday was added as a no school day. Andie did not have flu symptoms any of these days she had no in-class teaching. Now, over the weekend, she was sick. The school systems told the teachers to come Monday prepared with two days of NTI for the students because of the weather coming into Kentucky Monday night.
We did go to LaGrange at 1:30pm and pick up Bailey. We took her to McCallister's for lunch (her choice and one of our favorites). The we opened her presents in our car. She loved her gift.
Then we headed to Kroger for her to pick out and ice cream she wanted. She picked Ben & Jerry's. Of course!
We dropped her at her home and we headed back to Georgetown. We watched the weather and made the decision to pack and get the house ready on Sunday. Then leave Monday and get south of where the storm would be.
One thing we have learned with travel, you must be flexible. Enjoy the things you are able to do. When something doesn't or can't go as planned, make the best of it. Your attitude makes all the difference. That you can control.
Sunday, February 9th, we slept in. I did my home PT. We started to clear our desks and get ourselves packed for an early departure on Monday morning. As of this writing, we are still not sure how far we will get but we are ready to go and enjoy this anniversary week. It will all be GREAT!!
