Jeep, Temple, Spring in the Air, Broken Bones, Weight, Crocheting, Relief Society Birthday...

Monday, March 9th, well, it finally happened. We never thought it would, but it did. The Jeep had to go in for service. This is such a sturdy vehicle. Claude deduced there was a brake issue by the way it was acting. Seemed to stick on one wheel sometimes but not all the time. Sometimes if sounded and felt like something was falling out of the car. Claude called the local tire dealer we use and they could get him in that morning. Yippee!! Claude drove the Jeep over and left it to be fixed. I followed and he took us to Chick-filA for a biscuit breakfast. After that, we went to Kroger to buy some groceries.

When we got home, I noticed our front flower bed was full of purple crocus. We sent from brutally cold to unusually warm. The world is sure it is spring and trees are blossoming and little flowers are making their appearance. I love these little purple flowers. They were planted by the previous owner and they come up every year without me doing a thing.
Once home I set to work finishing my weekly Blog and getting pictures labeled and put in their proper files. I was also able to get the Relief Society newsletter format done for the next three months and to update the conducting form for Relief Society.

We opted for dinner at Chipotle's before picking up the Jeep. After I dropped Claude off, I went back to Walmart to find more yarn to finish Kennedi's afghan for her Christmas present this year. I had to search but I did find one skein at the very back, on the bottom shelf. Walmart used to have an okay selection of yarn. Not so much anymore.

As I was leaving Walmart, I looked up and saw Spencer and Dusty Hanson watching me. I said hi. Spencer, who is Down's Syndrome, looked at me and said, "You are beautiful." I thanked him profusely. What a nice thing to say. Really lifted my spirits.

We received a message from Katelyn that she broke her wrist playing hockey on Sunday afternoon. Drew played in an amateur hocky league. He has since he was a little boy. He loves hockey. They were short a man on their team. Katelyn said she would give it a try. She has been playing for weeks now. This time, she didn't fair so well. Here is her description of what happened:

"It was the third period and I lined up at center ice on the wing for the faceoff. Our center took the draw and we pushed the puck down the ice. We got a shot on net that was saved, and I chased the rebound. I took a shot that missed, rest and tried again on the next rebound but couldn't get it to go. The puck cleared and they started heading back down the ice toward Drew's end. I knew I had to help stop the rush before they go there. I stepping in to stop the puck, caught an edge, and went down hard on my wrist. Turns out I broke it, but at least it happened going full effort in the third period."

On Monday, she went to the surgeon. He has put her in a plastic cast and told her to be perfectly obedient and NOT use that wrist. If this doesn't work, surgery will be needed. They will have a grand adventure with four children, an exchange student, Katelyn working, activities for the kids, Drew working nights, church callings, and the list goes on. Prayers for Katelyn and their family.
Tuesday, March 10th, we would go to the Louisville Temple. We usually go in the evening. They have added two shifts for endowments in the morning. We opted to sign up for the 11:30am shift. We had to be at the temple at 11am. We found we really like this timing. It is after rush hour so the drive was not bad. We were finished and on the way home before evening rush hour so the drive was not bad. We usually have dinner on the way to the temple when going in the evening. This time, we decided to find somewhere for lunch. Claude pulled off the Snyder onto Route 60. There are a lot of restaurants in the shopping center there. We found Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe. The food was delicious. I had a falafel gyro with rice and Claude had a lamb gyro with pasta salad. I love a good falafel and this was a great falafel. The rice was some kind of long grain rice but it was delicate and light with lime juice on it. Yummy! We got one tiny baklava wedge to share for dessert. Yum again!! We think we have found our new temple routine. Go in the middle of the day and have lunch on the way home at Taziki's! Yes!

Wednesday, March 11th, was a nice day at home to leisurely get through things. I figured out what Strategic Wealth Design wanted. I sent a not to Lori Duffy regarding the passing of her mother, Linda Speakes. I ordered Andie's birthday gift and set up the gifts for Nissa, Paul and Todd. Then I crocheted for a long time on Kennedi's afghan for her Christmas present. I also made an appointment for me to see Dr. Lyon. It was a full day but at my pace...which is much slower nowadays.

Thursday, March 12th, found me home alone a good bit. Claude had the Governor's Prayer Breakfast in Frankfort. The alarm went off at 5:45am. Ugh! I tried to go back to sleep but that just did not work. I got up and read in the Come, Follow Me manual. Then I set to work crocheting. Claude came home and then went out again to get his new diabetic shoes and other things. It was really a quiet kind of day.

Friday, March 13th, please note the date. Friday the 13th.

I had an appointment at 10:30am with Dr. Lyon. I have gained more weight than I have ever weighed in my life. It really wanted help losing it. My approach has not worked at all. I was actually considering one of the weight loss medications. When I spoke with my sister, Junie, she lost 50 pounds and is feeling great. She has been using a weight loss medication. Dr. Lyon is such a good doctor. He always uses a measured approach rather than jumping off the deep end. He suggested I try and intermittent fasting diet. Basically, you eat no breakfast, you eat a light lunch and a full dinner. Then nothing to eat until the next day at lunch time. I may drink water all evening but nothing else. I asked about my sodas. He said not to drink them. Especially since I don't drink diet soda. If this does not work, we can discuss the alternative use of medications. However, they are expensive and get more so as the dosage increases. They might start at $150/month and go to $600/month. You continue using them for the remainder of your life. If you go off, you will probably gain all the weight back. They can be hair loss and other side effects with digestion. I will give the intermittent fasting a really go try. Dr. Lyon has had patients lose 40 pounds in a few months. I will continue with walking my treadmill for exercise. Soon it will be yardwork time and that will also be exercise we don't get in the winter. So, here I go.

After finishing with Dr. Lyon, I went to CVS to pick up my Timolol drops for my eyes. While there I also got some more Alpha Lipoic Acid for my feet. It was buy one, get one free. They only had on bottle on the shelf. The nice lady at the counter said she could do a raincheck so I could pick up the free bottle later. When she was filling out the rain check form, she realized it was Friday the 13th. I assured her it was a good day. She agreed. I asked her if she knew why it was such a feared day. She thought it was the elevators in hotels. I was able to share about the Knights Templar being executed on that day. She had never heard of the Knights Templar. I was amazed.

When home, I finished off Kennedi's afghan for Christmas.
I also ordered gift cards for three fast food places to help the Ropers with food while Katelyn is handicapped! I sent a copy of the order form and explained what we were up to. She was very happy for this little bit of help.

Claude had a hankering for 5 Guys. We headed there for our dinner/ On the way we saw this funny sign off to the side of the road. It was an exceptionally windy day. Claude said it looked like the sign was saying, "Me! Me! Me!" So funny.
Saturday, March 14th, was a stay at home and be productive day. Laundry was done. Treadmill was walked. Bathrooms were wiped down. Plants were watered. A start was made to this Blog. And I enjoyed a Northern Disclosure while starting my 'crochet around the burp pad' project. These are gifts from the Relief Society to mothers with new babies.

Sunday, March 15th, was an absolutely wonderful Sabbath Day.

Sacrament Meeting had three speakers and they were all excellent. Gabe Lyman is 14 years old and he spoke on the sacrament. Whitney Garret spoke on agency. Her husband, Brenden, spoke on the Holy Ghost. Such a good doctrine filled sacrament meeting.

Claude leaned over to me during the opening hymn and pointed to his ears. He forgot his hearing aid. That means all he was hearing was the wah-wah-wah like you hear on Charlie Brown. Ugh! I had a few things to deliver and check on with people after Sacrament Meeting, then we left to go to Arby's for our meal-o-the-day.

Claude took a wonderful Sunday nap. I worked on Relief Society birthday cards for the rest of March and all of April. Then I pulled together all I had for the April newsletter. I also gave Rita Thorn, our new 1st counselor in Relief Society, access to all out Google shared documents.

In the evening, I went to the Relief Society Birthday Devotional. I picked up Kitty Lloyd and we drove to Rita Thorn's and then she drove us to Versailles where the meeting was held at Cheryl White's home. We gathered at 6:30pm. The broadcast of the Devotional from Salt Lake started about 7pm followed by a testimony meeting. It was an excellent broadcast. Camille Johnson, the General Relief Society president gave the best quote "You can do your hard alone. Or, you can do your hard with Jesus." The sisters enjoyed great refreshments and visiting. Such a good evening.
Claude made a McDonald's run and got a bag of little burgers. He came home and curled up to watch Gettysburg. Excellent movie but I don't like watching it. Love the music. Claude had a great guy night.

I asked Claude is he thought I was a holy woman. During Sis. Johnson's talk she kept referring to our doing hard things makes us holy, it makes our efforts holy. I like myself. I think I am a good person. But I don't think I have ever called myself holy. The idea stuck with me and I wanted to know what Claude thought. He thinks I am. He said he likes that I am naturally good. It is not contrived goodness. I was happy to have that conversation with my hubby.
