As we left our home to go to Georgetown to Church this morning, I realized my pretty flower bloomed. I purchased two of these plants last year and planted them on either side of my peonies in the center bed of our front flower beds. I waited for them to come up this year. The plant on one side did come up but the plant on the other never came up. I only had green leaves for the longest time until this morning. So very happy to see bright red blossoms. When we got home from Church I quickly got this picture of my 'Lucifer' plant. What a name!!
While at Church I had one of those moments when you feel the blessing of fulfilling a calling at Church. I am the Primary president and work with the children 18 months to 12 years of age. One of the things we challenge the kids to do is memorize the 13 Articles of Faith. These are statements written by Joseph Smith to explain the beliefs of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Not an easy task to memorize all 13. When a child completes memorizing all 13, we give them a certificate and a Big 13 candy bar. Today Jacob Marcum and Sarah Marcum completed the Big 13.
Our theme this year in Primary is "Families Are Forever". This month we are particularly focusing on family activities that strengthen our families. What better example than these two children working with their parents to memorize the 13 Articles of Faith. It made me thankful and happy to have this happen today.
I also received messages with pictures from Andie today. Their family took a little road trip to Columbus, Ohio. They have found several interesting things to see and do. One of them was this neat sculpture of rabbits dancing. My family nickname growing up was Wabbit. My parents saw acres of western land covered with jack rabbits and the holes they lived in while we were on a trip. They started calling each other Ma Wabbit and Pa Wabbit. Soon us girls were Little Wabbits. It stuck and I still use it to this day. Andie knew the story and had Hayden, Michael and Bailey pose like the dancing rabbits and took this cute photo. I have printed it and will take it to Papa tomorrow. I know he with love that photo.
Now, so one does not assume my life is all peaches and cream, let me add that yesterday I spent the morning weeding a lot of the flower beds in our yard. I realized I would only have that one day to do this for the entire month and needed to get it done. One of the beds is full of mint and grows under my sewing room window along the back of the house. In this mint poison ivy had grown. I thought it was a little, I was wrong. It was attached to the bricks that face the lower outside of our home. It was entwined in the mint plants. There was one stem that was a half in thick. Yep, I had no idea until I looked closely to weed that there was so much and it had grown that big. Poison ivy is capable of this. I pulled and pulled and got it all out as best I could. I was wearing long sleeve and gloves but I still managed to get some of that juice from the plant on my right wrist. This morning I noticed a red spot on the top of my right hand above the wrist. Out came the cortisone cream. By the time choir practice started after Church is has spread around my right wrist to the bottom of my hand. The wrist is swelling a bit. Sometimes it takes a couple of days for the full effect to show. This is not going to be a fun case I'm guessing. It should last a couple of weeks and then I'll be ready to tackle the hill again. It shall not defeat me!!
It has been a good Sunday. We came home and I even got a nap. Very unusual for me but very welcome. Feeling blessed today.
