Camp Christensen - Day 4 (Thursday, July 9th)
Today was a slower day than the others. We spent our morning with Claude cutting the lawn. I made the grocery list from the menu plan grid. (I always make grids when planning something like this. It is a joke with our family that mom makes notebooks and/or grids to get through things. This year I had an activity grid and a food grid. But let me tell you folks, it is the way to go.)
While I made the grocery list, Paul and Aubrey made 'Glow-in-the-Dark Comets'. These are made out of tennis balls. You take a plastic grocery bag, cut off the handles, lay the bag flat and cut up the 2 sides where the handles had been. Then you insert the tennis ball into the bottom of the bag and pull the sides tightly around it. Next you take a 7 foot length of florescent vinyl lacing and lay it the length of the bottom of the bag to the ball, wrap it tightly around the bottom of the ball 3 times to anchor it, then wrap it around the ball 3 times, turn the ball 90 degrees, wrap it 3 times around the ball again, then tie a knot in the lacing. Then you cut the rest of the length of the bag into strips so they look look a comet trail. Then you can attach ribbons and/or more lacing to decorate your comet as you like.
When we were finished it was lunchtime. Paul didn't want to go grocery shopping so we set the island up with all the kinds of things he could fix himself for lunch. He was happy. I took Aubrey with me and we went to the nursing home to see Mimi and Papa. After Papa fed Mimi her lunch, Aubrey and I took Papa to Dairy Queen for lunch and blizzards for dessert. Then Aubrey and I headed to WalMart (or the Georgetown Mall as we call it) for our grocery run.
We had a few quiet hours at the house before going to Lexington for a baseball game. Claude and I have never attended a Lexington Legends ball game. So it was a treat to us as well. Aubrey spent a lot of time at the bouncing games. We had cotton candy, ate ball park food, and generally enjoyed our evening. The Legends were playing the Savannah Gnats. Kind of funny after our Louisville bug experience. The Chick-fil-A people were the sponsors. A player on the Savannah team was chosen to be the one who, if he was struck out, all the people in the stands would get a coupon for a free sandwich at Chick-fil-A. He was obliging and struck out. The coupons are good for a while so we will enjoy them at some point in August.
I forgot my camera all day this day so there are no pictures.
