Tenacious...

te.na.cious:  adjective - not readily relinquishing a position, principle or course of action; determined
(synonyms: persistent determined, dogged, strong-willed, tireless, indefatigable, resolute, patient, unflagging, staunch, steadfast, untiring, unwavering, unswerving, unshakable, unyielding, insistent)

Once upon a time I had a job interview.  Last full-time job I had before we retired.  When asked about a quality they should know about how I worked, I used the word tenacious.  I'm not sure that question got me the job.  But I liked using it.  I explained that I get into a project and just don't want to let it go until it is complete.

Saturday, January 31st, I visited Papa and took him a lemon muffin.  I had asked him earlier in the week if he wanted anything to snack on during the Super Bowl.  He couldn't think of a thing which did not surprise me.  The rest of humanity indulges in lots of foods as they watch the Super Bowl.  Papa, not so much.  He loves football and knew he would be watching but it would never occur to him to get special foods to munch on while watching. In an effort to not over do the eating thing with my hubby being so good at watching his weight, I purchased a package with 4 big lemon muffins for a sweet snack.  Papa would get one of these for his snack.  So on Saturday, January 31st, I visited Papa and gave him his lemon muffin and told him it was for his Super Bowl snack.  He laughed at my own form of tenaciousness and I put the muffin on the counter.

Sunday, stopped in to see how he was and asked if he had eaten that muffin yet.  This was before the Super Bowl.  My father has the biggest sweet-tooth of any person I have ever encountered during my life.  However, he assured me he had not eaten it.  He was tempted but he was being a good guy and saving it for the Super Bowl.  I now enjoyed a good laugh at Papa's tenaciousness.

As I drove away from his apartment the word 'tenacious' came to my mind.  That describes Papa when it comes to some of these things.  I found myself amused that maybe that is where I get my little bit of tenacity.  It was just an interesting point to ponder as I drove home to enjoy Sunday evening and watch the Super Bowl with Claude and our lemon muffins.

On a side-note...I looked through those synonyms and thought I should have used the word indefatigable for this Blog entry.  That is a great word!!
