Out with the Old, In with the New...

A quick post to finish 2022.

Wednesday, December 28th, Katelyn sent us pictures of Joel before and after his hair cut. We call this little guy The Potato. Drew and Katelyn came up with the name. It fits. Here are the before the haircut pictures. Drew is holding Joel. Joel is hanging onto his cat. He LOVES this cat. The cat is typically patient with Joel's strong displays of affection. Note in the second picture he has his hand completely across the poor cat's face. These before pictures should actually be dated December 25th
The pictures after the haircut are dated Wednesday, December 27th. He is happy with longer hair and with shorter hair. The cutest Potato ever!
The morning of Saturday, December 31st, I came across an interesting family history fact. I posted this message of our family Facebook page with this picture. "Interesting Family History lesson today...Laura Cordelia Clark Fisch (Mimi's Mother) was born December 30, 1896. She was married to Clarence Clifford Fisch December 30, 1926. She was 30 years old when she married on the 30th."
At about 11am, it occurred to me to check my weather. This time a week ago we were in the single digits with ice that would not melt because wind chills made it feel like it was way below zero. This weekend it was much milder. A little rain but no ice or freezing winds.
Our traditional New Year's Eve celebration was in place for this weekend. Hayden drove himself over to join us this year. Blows my mind that he is doing that. He sent me a link to his Google Maps so I could follow his progress. At one point I sent a text to Andie asking if she was following Hayden as he drove. She assured me she was. He made it here just fine. I took this picture and sent it via text to Andie. She was very happy her young man made it okay.
We were ready to enjoy our Annual Lord of the Rings Marathon. Food was on the counter or in the fridge/freezer ready to be prepared. We had been given this interesting bottle of root beer by the Marx family and we determined we would ring in the New Year with it.
We told Hayden we wanted a 2pm start time to be sure we were done at midnight. You see, our congregation will now have Sacrament meeting at 9am. We wanted to get as much rest as we could before getting up two hours earlier that usual to get ready for Church. At 2:02pm we started the movies. Hayden was quick to remind me we were late getting started. Only two minutes late, but late nonetheless.
The movies were finished at 11:45. We stayed up for New Years. However, we forgot to take out the root beer. Honestly, I think we were all overloaded with the variety and quantity of our snacking. It was fun to have Hayden with us to watch these movies. Happy this is something we can share with him.

Sunday morning we were up and ready to go to Church. Mind you, the Church is across the street from our subdivision. We can see it from our front yard. Usually. I took this picture as Claude was stopped at the entrance to Ward Hall Estates. The Church is across this intersection. Can you see it in the picture? We had a bit of fog this morning.
Church had light attendance, which is expected as families finish their Christmas vacations in other cities before returning home for school in January. Primary went well. I played the piano.

I did come across a couple of interesting items on Facebook the past few days. The first is a recipe that I have never seen before. Looks yummy. The second is a great gift idea for the New Year but could be used for someone's birthday or special occasion.
We came home to find Hayden still asleep. Claude also laid down for his Sunday afternoon nap. Bet he sleeps good after our eating-too-much-movie-marathon last night. I'm doing things I want to do. When Hayden wakes up, we plan to get something to eat with him before he drives back to LaGrange to work. Claude and I will watch a bit more of the Psych series. I'll crochet a bit more. It will be a quiet evening at our home.

And...we are off for 2023. Wonder what will be in store for us this year.
