Oldham County Days Parade

Saturday, July 20th, found us getting to LaGrange in the morning. That day was the annual Oldham County Days Parade. Big deal in LaGrange. For us, the big deal was Hayden will be in Oldham County High School this year and will be in the band. This was to be his first time to march in this parade. In addition, his band teacher was the Grand Marshal for the parade this year.

We drove to the Marx home just before they took Hayden to Oldham County High School to catch the bus to ride with the rest of the band to where they would line up for the parade. I scored this picture of our boy with his music holder he would use in the parade.
Michael, Andie, Bailey, Claude and I all rode into LaGrange to have breakfast at the building that houses City Hall and a community center. The Rotary Club sells a pancake breakfast there each year.  At the table where you pay, they had this fun pancake display. I was most impressed with their skill at running a lot of people through very quickly. In addition to using the community center kitchen, the back door was open and there was at least one grill out there to keep the cooking going. I also appreciated the paint brush in the container of melted butter. If you wanted butter on your pancakes, they simply slathered it on with the paint brush. Way cool!
As we stood in line for our pancakes, Claude made note of the interesting placement of the defibrillator.  Bwha-ha-ha!!
Michael found us a great place on the parade route. We set up our lawn chairs and waited for the parade to make its way to us. We were closer to the end of the route.

This is Mr. Rogers, the Oldham County Band teacher. He also conducts a community orchestra. He has been around a long time and is very respected. Nice honor for him to be the Grand Marshal this year.
Can you spy Hayden in these pictures? Hints. Look for sunglasses and blue sneakers.
After the parade Hayden walked to where we were sitting and enjoyed re-hydrating after a very hot morning of marching. He did great and we were very happy with being able to watch this.
We did reflect on the next few years. Hayden plans at this point to do band each of his 4 years of high school. Bailey plans to follow suit for her four years. That will give us many years of watching the Mini's in the hot July weather. However, all adults agreed we should being with that Rotary Club breakfast each year.
