Our son, Jake, had his 25th High School Reunion in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He responded he would attend and he made the name tags for those who would attend. He left work on Friday and drove part way. The Reunion was Saturday at the Holiday Inn. Sunday, Jake would drive all the way back to Michigan with a stop in Gettysburg.
We know this hotel well. It was where we held the very first Maryland State Rally for GWRRA (Gold Wing Road Riders Association) when Claude was the State Director. It was a competitor when I worked at the Courtyard Marriott years ago. It is a nice venue for a reunion.
Alicia, who was a youth a Church when we lived in Maryland, posted a couple of pictures on Facebook and tagged me in them. The first is Alicia with Jake. The second is the entire group that attended. Jake is on the back row, 4th from the right end.
Jake only took one picture at the reunion. He was thumbing through someone's year book and came across this picture of Andie, his sister. She is two years older than Jake. She was the Homecoming Queen and Toby Holowitz was the Homecoming King one year. This is a picture of them. Watkins Mill High School was built while Andie and Jake were in high school age. Andie was the first graduating class, if I remember correctly. Anyway, this was a blast from our family's past that Jake captured for us.
I do believe the highlight of the trip for Jake was going to Gettysburg on the way home. He loves this piece of ground. Spent many hours there as a teen. The movie Gettysburg came out when he was young and he was captivated with the story of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain who fought for the north with the Maine regiment. Jeff Daniels is the actor who played this person. Jeff is one of Jake's favorite actors. When our Nissa divorced and moved home with little Katelyn, Jake would sometimes be the babysitter. I marveled that he, a teen aged young man, took this little two year old to Gettysburg with him one day. They had a great time. So this ground has lots of memories and feelings for Jake on many, many levels.
This picture was taken on Little Round Top.
This picture was take looking across Devil's Den.
A nice couple took this shot of Jake by the 20th Maine monument.
This is taken at the Angle. The high water mark looking across to the Virginia Monument.
Jake had a good trip. Lots of memories and renewing of his soul. Happy he could make this trip and especially happy he connected with Gettysburg.
