The Yard...

When it's Springtime in Kentucky...(this should bring a melody to mind of an old song titled "When It's Springtime in the Rockies", just borrowed the thought).

We have had lots of rain and that has brought an abundance of weeds this spring. I'm trying to get through all our flower beds. I need to be quicker about this but, it is what it is. Saturday morning, April 27th, Claude and I decided to spend our morning working in the yard. This is one of the flower beds I needed to attack with my weeding tool I love so much. This is a before and after pictures. Yep, that is a LOT of weeds. My aching body!!
Claude is in overdrive working on things around the house and outside. With him not being Mayor and not being on as many boards, etc., he has found himself with time that he has channeled into some wonderful projects. The flower bed that lines the back of our home has been something we wanted to upgrade for some time. We had left over regular bricks from the building of our home that Claude used to just make a border on the bed right after we moved in. Last fall I pull out all the mint that filled this bed. Some has grown back (mint is very difficult to get rid of). So, Claude thought out a plan of how he wanted to make this bed. He figured the number of bricks he would need. Then he set to work. These first three pictures are of Claude working on the bed. He would make a wall to frame the bed and tier it as he went up the hill. He would also section it where he made the tiers. He masterfully built the turn in the wall to go up to the hosta beds. He had to go back two times more to buy more bricks. The wall around the hosta beds ended up needing to be a layer higher than he planned.
These three pictures are of the finished wall around the flower beds. I just love how Claude did all of this. He is very happy with it as well.
Now he is on to repairing the deck in preparation for stripping and refinishing the upper and lower decks. Then we'll power wash the outside of the house. Homes require a lot of effort to keep them up. Grateful for a hubby that is willing and able to work so hard to keep our home up.
