As if lots of chili on Saturday the 15th wasn't enough, we confirmed that October is truly Chili Cook-off month by participating in the Georgetown Senior Center Chili Cook-off. This again is an annual event. The entries are by local officials. Pictured below is Mayor Tom Prather of Georgetown, Mayor Kayla Jones of Stamping Ground, Judge Executive for Scott County George Lusby and Mayor Claude Christensen of Sadieville.
This year Mayor Jones of Stamping Ground won again. Claude and I got there early to enter his chili. We were early and the band was just setting up. I found a quiet place to read and study for my next Institute lesson while this was happening. We had family coming in so every moment I could sneak to work on this, I took. Claude wandered off a bit and came back with the news that Mayor Jones was cheating. How is she cheating? Well, she brought shredded cheese and sour cream for her chili to be topped with before it was served to the judges. You have to understand that this event is fraught with trash talk by these four officials every year. Kayla would hear lots about this addition to her chili. And, as it turns out, she won again this year, albeit with a little edge on the others.
Claude and I opted to not eat at this event. We paid the money but didn't eat there. Instead we stopped at Wendy's on the way home and ordered a cup of chili to go with our sandwiches and salad. We took this great selfie to let Mayor Prather know we left so we could actually have some of his chili. Part of the trash talk is that Mayor Prather doesn't make his own chili, he buys it from Wendy's and enters that.
Great cause and we enjoyed helping support the Senior Center.
