Friday, September 30th, found Claude and I leaving Sadieville very early in the morning to get to LaGrange. Bailey would be running in the Buckner Bear Run. This annual event is held to raise money by the PTA of Buckner Elementary. The children secure pledges from family and friends for each lap they run. They have used the Oldham County High School track around the football field this year and last. Each lap around the track counts as two laps compared to when they used to run at the elementary school. It is a fun activity for all the kids and gets them moving. Yeah! Since Hayden is now in Middle School, we would only get to watch Miss Bailey run this year. Michael was able to go into work late that day and was at the track with us.
Here are pictures of our girl. She is one HUGE bundle of energy and consequently is always on the move. The first two pictures are of the warm up. Bailey wore gray sweat pants and it helps to pick her out in the crowd. The big guy in the background is Claude watching his youngest grandmonster embrace her life.
Bailey running with the pack. Claude, Michael and Ms. Pitcock, Bailey's teacher, watching her run.
Michael putting hash marks on Bailey's t-shirt. They get two hash marks for each lap they complete. The kids get t-shirts for the race and they just pause after each lap and a volunteer makes two hash marks with a big black felt tip permanent marker.

Everyone runs. This includes the disabled children. One young man made many laps in his motorized wheel chair. Grin on his face. Another child who can walk but has a hard time doing so was so happy to be participating. She has a teacher who stays with her and she was just kept saying, "Run. Run, let's Run!" Fortunately her teacher is a runner and could keep up with her. I loved this.
One more year of Buckner Bear Runs and then our little Miss will go to Middle School herself. She loves having us come and watch whatever she is participating in. Great that we could both be there for this one.
