Camp Christensen - Day 2 (Tuesday, July 7th)

Tuesday morning we picked up Paul and Aubrey. These grandmonsters were not TOO excited about this trip, they just had their luggage and were sitting on the front steps awaiting our arrival. Gotta love youth. Now, it is an 8 hour drive from Muskegon to Sadieville so I put together 2 lap boards full of car games for Paul & Aubrey and 1 for me to keep things going. These lap boards had a tablet of paper, easy Sudoku puzzles, 1 MadLibs book, 1 maze book, 1 sheet of the sign language alphabet, 1 car bingo game, several sheets of the dot game where you make squares, several pages of tic-tac-toe games, a list of the states with blanks for their state nicknames and state capitals. I also had a folder full of copied pages on card stock paper of puppets to be used latter in the week. The bag I brought had 2 Ziplock bags of colored pencils and 2 Ziplock bags of crayons and 3 pairs of scissors. Paul & Aubrey were each offered a dollar if they filled in their bingo cars completely and another dollar if they found license plates for all 50 states. We were set for travel. We drove through the McDonald's by their home for a breakfast to take with us one the road and we were off.
We actually spent a good deal of our time coloring in the many pages of puppet pieces and then cutting them out. We stopped at Taco Bell for lunch on the way to La Grange. We made it to La Grange and the Marx home in great time.
It was wonderful to get out of the car and stretch our legs. Hayden was soooo excited to have Paul and Aubrey at his home. Bailey was still asleep so he had a little time before she woke up. The kids played and watched a truck video with Hayden.

Then we put Aubrey in Andie's van with Andie, Hayden and Bailey and they headed to the park. Paul went with Claude and me to Kentucky Fried Chicken for dinner to go. Then we met the rest of the family at the park. Michael joined us after work. The kids played on the play ground, Paul climbed a tree, and we ate until we were all full. It was a most pleasant reward after a day of driving. Michael suggested trying a new ice cream stand that had opened on the road to their home. We stopped there and everyone had the ice cream treat of their choice. Paul and Bailey enjoyed dancing to the music and Hayden joined them a bit.

Then it was back to the Marx home to spend the night there. We went through baths and setting up beds for Paul and Aubrey, reading of bedtime stories which Bailey brought to Claude to read and Aubrey read to Hayden in his bed. Andie showed Paul and Aubrey their options for the Wednesday morning outing on her computer. They could go to the Zoo or to the Science Center. They both unanimously agreed to a Zoo trip because of the new Sky Walk there.

Amazingly we were all in bed by 10pm. Whew!!
