Relationship Rehab...

Tonight our Relief Society (women's organization at Church) had an activity titled "Relationship Rehab".  It was a totally wonderful evening.

Before the meeting started there was an exchange. You bring in items from your home you don't need that are usable and they are all laid out on tables. You can browse through and take things that you can use. Remaining items are then donated to Goodwill. There was everything from clothes, to toys, to shoes, to dishes, to picture frames, etc.

When it was time to start, we met in the Relief Society room. We were each given an index card and instructed to put our names and contact information on the card.

We had an opening prayer and spiritual thought.

Then we were instructed to think of a service we could provide to another sister at Church that would involve face-to-face time with them. It did not need to cost money. We were to write that service on the index with our name and contact information. Someone made a really cute purse out of a large brown paper bag. They even cut out flowers and put on the front and made a strap for it out of brown paper. We each put our index cards into this purse.

Then we went to the cultural hall. There was a table along the side with snack foods and punch. In the center of the room was a large square of tables with chairs on the inside and outside. We were to get a snack and drink if we wanted. Then we were to take a seat on the inside or ourside of the square of chairs.

Once everyone was settled we were told we were going to do a 'Speed Friendshipping' game. It was to be like the 'Speed Dating' thing you hear about. We would talk with the sister across from us for 2 minutes, a bell would ring, then the outside circle would move to the next chair on their left and talk to them for 2 minutes. Bowls with strips of paper containing questions were placed about every third person. If you needed a question to jumpstart your conversation, you could take one from the bowl. It was great fun.

The next game was also delightful. In the last section of the cultural hall were 4 sets of 2 chairs. The chairs were placed in each corner of the last section of the cutural hall. Six sisters volunteered to participate at each of the 4 sets of 2 chairs. Two straight pins were given to each sister. Each sister was also give two pieces of typing paper with a large letter written on the paper. Each letter was labeled 1F for the front and 1B for the back. There was a 2F and 2B, 3F and 3B, and so on. The sister pinned the 1F letter to the front of her blouse and the 1B letter to the back of her blouse. Everyone of the the 24 ladies were to stand and face the audience. Then they were shown a 4-letter word written on a piece of typing paper. Each group of 6 ladies had to arrange themselves facing forward or backward to spell the 4-letter word they shown. Once their group spelled the word, the extra 2 ladies in their group had to be sit in the chairs for their group. The judges watched to see which group accomplished this first. A point was given for the group that was first. It was also a great game. I've requested the instructions so our family can play it some time when we are all together.

After the games, that paper bag purse was passed around. Each sister drew someone's card out of the bag. Their door prize for the evening was the service the sister wrote on her card.

The point of the evening was for us to learn a bit more about a lot of the other ladies at Church and build new relationships. It was great fun and such a fun evening with other ladies.  I drew lunch with one of the ladies at Church that I have been wanting to get to know better. Great, great evening.
