Claude has a strong tendency toward getting skin cancers. He sees a dermatologist in Lexington about every six months to be sure we don't have any new issues.
Last Sunday Claude came down to my sewing room and said something like, "Well, this is something that doesn't happen everyday."
I asked the obligatory, "What is that?" while trying to continue my computer work.
He heard a news story that Dr. Martha Post was shot and killed in Lexington. Dr. Martha Post owns the dermatological practice that Claude goes to. She is not his doctor but it is her practice. It seems she was leaving the office and was backing out when someone came up and shot her multiple times. She died on the spot.
Claude shared this story with me and I stopped what I was doing and looked at him and said something like, "Do you feel like you are in an episode of Criminal Minds?" Good grief.
Really, we don't have much of that kind of thing in Lexington. We heard of it happening a lot more when we lived in Maryland just outside Washington, DC. Lexington news is more like 'the fireman retrieved the cat from the tree successfully' kind of stuff.
I asked Claude if he was worried about going to his appointment on Wednesday. He said not really. The office is in a good part of town, it is a very nice practice. But clearly the situation gave him pause for thought.
Claude did get a call later stating the office was closed until further notice and his appointment was canceled.
Now that is just something that truly doesn't happen every day...thank heavens!!
