Of Boots and Sword and Shield...

This week our youngest grandmonster turns the ripe old age of six. We will not see her on her birthday but we did managed to get to LaGrange yesterday for a few hours after Church to take birthday gifts and lunch. We tried to go Saturday but due to a snowstorm we opted not to drive that day.

Bailey was asked what she wanted for lunch for her early birthday celebration. Her reply, "Bacon."  She definitely has a Gramma gene running through her little body. The decision was made to have a bacon cheeseburger from Wendy's. Claude and I stopped at the Wendy's in LaGrange and purchased lunch on our way to the Marx home.

When we arrived, Bailey had been out front playing in the snow with friends. She saw us and planted herself at the bottom of their driveway. She looked for all the world like those people-like objects made of clothe with arms. They have a blower at the base that shoots air up through them and they frantically wave their arms and bodies around in the air to attract customers to a business. Miss Bailey looked exactly like that with the uninhibited waving of her entire body. Cracked me up!!

We love the hugs received when we get together with family. That is just the best feeling of love.

We had a nice lunch together. Bailey saved heart shaped bacon they must have had at breakfast for Claude and me to each have a piece. Lovin' the bacon!!
Then Claude and I emptied the trunk. I had several items that we collected over time that Andie could sell at the consignment sale she participates in. Claude and I are trying to thin out some of the possessions we have acquired since moving to Sadieville. Some of these fit nicely into the kinds of things Andie could sell. Included with these items in the trunk were Bailey's birthday gifts. I was the first one outside and carried my load in as Claude and Bailey headed to the trunk. When I got back outside a very happy Bailey was coming up the steps and in her arms were her two presents. She said she knew they were out there. Gotta love it.

We didn't have a birthday cake. However, Andie made little football shaped Rice Krispy Treats out of chocolate Rice Krispy's and Hayden and Bailey decorated them. This was because Sunday was the Super Bowl and football shaped Rice Krispy Treats seemed appropriate. We just used one of them for Bailey's birthday cake.
We enjoyed watching Bailey open her presents. I asked her to start with the smallest. She knew what it was. They all do. It was her Girl Scout cookies. Then she opened the bigger box. We found a pink pair of cow girl boots at Tractor Supply. This was Bailey's gift this year. Here is our little darlin' with her new boots. Yep, they are on the wrong feet. We eventually got that straightened out. We also concluded she wasn't going to sneak up on anyone wearing those boots.
Now that is just too cha-cha for words.

We would fill our few hours together by playing with Hayden's new Wii game, receiving training on our new Samsung phones from Michael and Andie, Andie teaching me how to work in Pinterest, seeing Hayden's trophy and car from this Pinewood Derby with scouts, the kids playing games on my Kindle and cell phone and watching the Puppy Superbowl.

Hayden also showed us the sword and shield he made from his KNex toys. This shield had a place for his arm to go through and then a movable place for his hand to hold the shield once his arm went through the hole. He could lift this handle when he wanted to use it and fold it down when he wasn't using it so it would store in a flatter space. I loved this pose with the serious expression.
We had a wonderful visit. The snow started to come again and we headed the red Buick back toward Sadieville. Happy Birthday Miss Bailey!!
